How to Reduce Acne Scars
In order to successfully reduce acne scars, it’s’ crucial to know the type of acne scars you have. There are 2 types of acne scars: pitted acne scars (where there has been a lot of tissue and the skin literally looks as though there are indentations in it) and post-inflammatory erythema (the red spots or brown spots left on the skin after active acne lesions disappear).
The typical treatment for acne scars is laser rejuvenation therapy using a fractional CO2 laser such as Smart skin. These lasers target deep layers of the skin to stimulate collagen renewal which in turn smooths out acne scars.
DON’T
While there are treatments now to help diminish the appearance of acne scars, if you don’t want to make your scars worse avoid doing the following:
- Irritate inflamed skin by overwashing or scrubbing scarred areas.
- Pick at the scars as bacteria from unwashed fingers and nails increase the risk of additional cysts forming leading to the development of a larger scar.
- Give up on acne scars – new treatments can dramatically improve both the depth and appearance of acne scars.
At All About You Medical Spa, we offer multiple acne scar treatment options. Call now to schedule your consultation with Dr. Gould to discuss which treatment option is best to remove your acne scars. We will waive the consultation fee when you book the procedure on the same day as your consultation.
